Types of Dental Bridges

Our dentists offer a number of dental bridge options, better enabling us to meet the unique needs of each patient. The most common type of dental bridge is the traditional fixed bridge. This type of bridge is secured to dental crowns placed over teeth on both sides of a gap. Traditional fixed dental bridges provide a strong and reliable hold, and can often restore full bite tension and ability.

Other dental bridge options offered by Dr. Tjoa and Dr. Morency include:

  • Bonded bridge – these bridges are attached to metal bands and bonded to the backside of adjacent teeth with resin bonding. Bonded bridges are often used on front teeth that do not bear significant tension when biting or chewing. Like fixed bridges, bonded dental bridges require teeth on both sides of a gap.
  • Cantilever bridge – if only one tooth is available to secure a restoration, a cantilever bridge may be used. These dental bridges are designed to adhere to the side of a single adjacent tooth and restore symmetry to your smile. This type of dental bridge may not be well suited for restoring function to back teeth.

In addition to dental bridges, our dentists offer implants and cosmetic dentures for tooth replacement. Which option is best for you can be determined during your tooth replacement consultation with Dr. Tjoa or Dr. Morency.
